Keep Kids Hydrated in the Heat

Here are some tips to make sure children stay hydrated in warmer weather

Warmer weather has arrived which means more play and fun outside. Kids need to drink enough fluid to feel their best, especially in the heat.

It’s easy to get distracted when having fun and miss the signs of a dehydrated child.  Kids may feel thirsty, faint or dizzy if they don't drink enough. They could also have dry lips, headache or muscle cramping. Children may not notice these signs, so you should watch for them and be prepared.  Remind children to drink beverages, even before they feel thirsty.

Tips to stay hydrated!

  • Drink water or milk with meals.
  • Have a smoothie for a snack.
  • Make frozen smoothie pops.
  • Carry a reusable water bottle throughout the day.
  • Eat foods that have a high-water content such as fruit, vegetables, and yogurt.
  • Add fresh or frozen fruit to water for more flavour. Choose your favourite flavours or try combinations such as watermelon and mint, cucumber and lemon or strawberry and orange.

Try our watermelon pizza recipe for a juicy snack.
