Ask students the following questions:

  • Name examples of foods that belong in each category: Vegetables and Fruit, Whole Grain Foods and Protein foods.
  • Name a food in each category you would like to try.
  • Find ways to stay hydrated with healthy beverages.
  • Name a benefit of eating whole grain foods.
  • Find ways to include more vegetables and fruit in your meals and snacks.
  • Name examples of Protein foods from Canada's Food Guide. Divide them into two groups (e.g., animal sources and plant sources of protein).
  • List Protein foods that provide iron.
  • Name Protein foods that are calcium-rich.
  • List Protein foods that provide fibre.

Once you have viewed the video with your students, ask them to come up with a meal combination using a food they have never tried before.

Since your students are in their bone building years, talk to them about calcium-rich foods in the protein category.

Healthy eating is more than the foods you eat.  Talk to your students about the importance of cooking more often and enjoying foods with others. To explore those messages in greater detail, visit Canada.ca/FoodGuide.
